In honor of Thanksgiving, I feel as though I should express my thankfulness. A list:
  • God
  • Family
  • Friends
  • My college
  • Frozen Lemonade
  • "The Office"
  • Facebook
  • Laughing
  • Cell phones
  • Mascara
I should probably stop. Basically, I'm grateful for everything in my life. I may whine and complain at times (or all the time), but it's really pretty awesome.

In other news, I just finished season 3 of "The Office." I do not want to marry John Mayer. Rather, I'd like to marry Jim Halpert. That is all.

You need to check out John Mayer's new album Battle Studies. It's amazing.

Also, I would like to marry him so he can sing me pretty songs for the rest of my life.

The end.

“One of us is big and brave, and one of us is tenderhearted. One of us is tempting fate, and the last, but not least, of us has faith enough for each of us.”

I have recently become more and more interested in The Chronicles of Narnia. I honestly need to read them over and refresh my memory. I would also like to watch the movies soon. However, I absolutely love the Music Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia. All the songs are absolutely amazing. My personal favorite is “I Will Believe” by Nichole Nordeman. My friend has described it as “Susan’s Song.” Upon a quick check of all the characters on Wikipedia, I do agree with her. The above quote is probably my favorite part in the entire song.

“…the last, but not least, of us has faith enough for each of us.” Yes, Susan is called Queen Susan the Gentle, but this quote very clearly directs to her (by process of elimination, at the very least). I think that is so cool: to be the one with faith.

I don’t think I put enough trust in God’s power in my life or other’s lives. Why shouldn’t I believe that God has the power to change other people’s lives? Just because I am unable to change their lives doesn’t mean God doesn’t have that sort of authority. I think I forget this so often because I am not looking for it in anyone’s life. I’m looking on the surface instead of below, which is where God works. I think I also forget His influence in my own life. I don’t trust Him enough to completely take care of me. This is something I am struggling with quite a bit. I was reminded of a passage that I had forgotten about but that I absolutely love:

‘Woe to the one who argues with his Maker—one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it: What are you making? Or does your work [say]: He has no hands? How absurd is the one who says to [his] father: What are you fathering? or to his mother: What are you giving birth to?’ This is what the Lord, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says: ‘Ask Me what is to happen to My sons, and instruct Me about the work of My hands. I made the earth, and created man on it. It was My hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.’

I say that I believe he has control over my life, but I don’t live it. Too much of a control freak? I think that’s something I need to let go of. Soon.

I'm so ready for Christmas!!!

So, Christmas is kind of my favorite.

No, really.

I know I say that EVERYTHING is my favorite. Mrs. Ledford was my FAVORITE teacher. "This is why you're my favorite." John Mayer is just my favorite. Everything has now become my favorite. And I think I'm ok with that.

But Christmas really is my favorite. I absolutely adore listening to Christmas songs. I have already started listening to them. My Pandora station is set to play Christmas songs. My friend, I believe, is holding a grudge for me playing them so early. She and her mom have always been adamant that these songs not be played until Thanksgiving. But I can't help it. The minute Halloween is over (or sometimes when it's not), I begin playing Christmas songs. One month is not enough. Two and a half, on the other hand, is enough. I mean, holiday songs are just SO happy and cheery and remind me of...I don't know...happy things. By the way, I am currently listening to BarlowGirl's version of "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year."

I think I love Christmas so much because it brings back so many happy memories from my childhood. I remember putting out all the Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving Day, and it was the absolute best time for me. The Christmas stuffed animals all got a special place on each couch. My personal favorite is the group of candles we own. They aren't just any old candles. They are Santa candles. Oh yes. The normal-looking stout Santa is the main Santa. The tiny skinny Santas are his helpers. Except now they have trouble standing up and look deformed due to the fact that we left them in the attic. And then they are accompanied by the wooden Rudolph and two wooden sleighs. I used to play with them on the fireplace, and now I keep them in my room. I will be bringing them back to college this year.

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the atmosphere outside. It's usually fairly cold outside and so I am able to bundle up. Most everyone in my hometown puts out Christmas lights (at the very least, we know exactly where to look for them). I love walking around and looking at them. I am very much looking forward to keeping this tradition at college. I am particularly excited about getting to see the lighting of the Rich's-Macy's Christmas tree. I haven't done this since I was two so I'm very excited about this event!

The Biggest Nerd

I feel like such a nerd. Did I just read all the information on my Microsoft One-Note program to know how to use it in the fullest manner? Oh, yes, I did. I absolutely love learning new programs on the computer. And this one is just plain cool. Kind of makes me wish certain teachers would let me bring my laptop to class...I could feel better about sleeping as often as I do. I mean, I can record lectures, take notes, and draw...all at the same time. To add to my nerdiness, I practically live on Facebook, I absolutely positively love love love Star Wars, and I kind of like reading. A lot. Tee-hee.

I just realized how thankful I am for all my friends here at college. I'm not sure you have any idea. Sure, my parents have been vital in getting me through the tough times, but I'd give my friends here the same credit. They have the job of giving me opinions and advice for the times that I constantly need it. There are a few that I'd consider myself co-dependent on (which, after thinking about this, I've decided this is a bad idea). I actually just realized I have spent over 24 consecutive hours with one of these friends...but it's definitely been fun. :)

My friends are constantly helping me with any homework that I have and any problem I have. I like being able to walk down to their rooms to just talk or laugh. We play MASH and Super MASH together when we get bored. We distract each other when that is needed. Well, I say all this...this is what they do for ME. I'd like to say I am able to do the same. Honestly, though, I don't feel as though I'm giving enough in any of my friendships, and I'd like to fix that. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to be more generous and to be a better friend.

Speaking of friends, one of them just let me listen to this song. I almost cried, but she said she would follow suit if I did, so I held back the tears. Really, though, it's a good song.

A Block

My friend told me today that I should probably start writing about my own life as opposed to other people's. I agree; this is a good idea. Oddly enough, I'm having some sort of difficulty in writing...call it writer's block, I guess. I have no idea how to get over this block. Paper vomit? Perhaps. Reason for writer's block? Probably not writing in forever. :/

Chance of a Lifetime

One of my best friends got to sit in on a taping of Switchfoot. I'm not sure that you completely grasp how very jealous I am. Switchfoot is probably one of my favorite artists. I mean, they are right up there with David Crowder, John Mayer, Jars of Clay, and Caedmon's Call. Which, the entire thing is just really exciting knowing that she got to see them. But still. I kinda wish that I'd been there with her.

Moral of the story? Make sure you go to a college that will be volunteering close to the Gospel Music Channel. And then talk to people from the Gospel Music Channel. You just might get to see Switchfoot. And get to sit close enough to touch Jon Foreman.

P.S.--If you do get that chance, please let me know. I'd love to come.

My first post...

Yay for new posts! I feel as though I haven't been doing enough creative writing to function normally, and I REALLY didn't want to do National Novel Writing Month (even though my friend begged me), so this is my remedy. Hope you enjoy! :)
